For the 68th Quarterly Edition, Field Notes turns its attention to the overlooked side of the season: late-blooming wildflowers that hold on just as the days turn colder. Purple coneflower, false foxglove, and common chicory aren’t spring’s showpieces, but they carry their own kind of presence—steady, resilient, and unexpectedly striking when everything else starts to fade.

Illustrated by Jennifer Farrell of Starshaped Press, each bloom is rendered in the decorative style of early 20th-century publishers’ bindings, giving the set a vintage, almost archival feel. The artwork is paired with subtle metallic printing on textured “Midnight Blue” covers, creating a finish that feels like an old cloth-bound book pulled from a well-loved shelf.

Inside, each notebook includes clean ruled pages in soft blue-gray ink, along with a small reference section on the back cover highlighting details about each flower and its practical uses.
