Created in collaboration with author Robert Macfarlane, this 67th Quarterly Edition is inspired by Is a River Alive?—a sweeping, deeply human exploration of rivers, landscapes, and the people fighting to protect them. Macfarlane carried early versions of these Field Notes notebooks through the years he spent writing the book, filling them with observations, fragments, and ideas collected in the field.

Each notebook features artwork by Stanley Donwood, known for his work with Radiohead and The Smile, built from his hand-carved linocut “Meander.” The covers layer texture, color, embossing, and varnish to create something that shifts as you move it—almost like water itself. Inside, you’ll find Field Notes’ signature structure: clean graph pages printed in soft gray, ready for notes, sketches, or whatever you’re trying to hold onto.

Two of the notebooks feature variations of the official book cover designs, while the third highlights Donwood’s original linocut process art, giving a closer look at the work behind it all.
